About Us

 

 

1801

Francis Baring, the founder of Barings Bank, purchased the Stratton estate from the heiress of the Earl of Southampton and her husband, the 6th Duke of Bedford, and proceeded to remodel the gardens and enclose the deer park.

 
1939

Barings Bank bought back Stratton Park to use as the bank's headquarters during the war.  

 

1952

Francis John, Fifth Baron Northbrook bought back the Park from the Bank while the house and the immediate grounds and woods were bought by John Baring, Lord Ashburton, whose seat had been, until 1933 (and would be again from 1962), The Grange at Northington. The house was demolished in 1961 and replaced with the present one.

1945

The Woodlands Estate was bought by the 4th Baron Northbrook.The estate is currently home to Francis Baring, 6th Baron Northbrook, and his family, forming part of Woodlands and Stratton Estates. 

 

2021+

To this day, the park remains host to agricultural and sporting activities, and the family plays an active role in the local community, with its picturesque traditional village, thatched houses, flourishing church and village hall.

Grange Park Opera 

We are 5 minutes away from the Grange Estate's stunning landscapes and yearly summer Opera festivals. We can offer accommodation and weekend packages including full catering for parties. 

Local Attractions

Woodlands and Stratton estates are situated in the most beautiful areas of Hampshire which have remained unchanged for many hundreds of years.

Whether sporting lets, venue hire or a last-minute weekend away, the Estate offers many opportunities to enjoy the authentic English countryside, just over 1 hour from Central London.

We can also arrange chalk stream fishing, clay pigeon shooting and trips to Winchester, the former capital of England.

Hospitality 

East Stratton is home to idyllic rows of thatched cottages, a country pub with local and international beers, wines and spirits, as well as well as East Stratton Farmhouse B&B, the beergarden and village green. Come and visit our Annual fete, or enjoy a shooting event with friends and family, and be sure to sample the local ale in the Northbrook Arms!
